Kathryn Clark

Last week when I shared a few sweet spots in my home, Kathryn Clark left a comment with a link to her own sweet spots. When I clicked over to visit her site, I was immediately drawn to her work. It has a thoughtful simplicity; I am most intrigued by her idiom series.

The Idiom Series renders literally the idioms of everyday language. Phrases spoken casually without much thought as to their origin and literal expression. I remake the essence of such phrases using simple, basic materials.
Hand felted wool, steel wire, embroidery thread and twine on sewn linen and silk. (from Kathryn Clark website)

My two favorite pieces in the series are above: Up and Out and Over and Over Again. I'll be watching Kathryn's process on her blog and through her flickr stream. Lovely.

Ken Rush

I was flipping through an old issue of Domino the other day (did you hear the good news?) when I saw the painting above by Ken Rush. I love the color and composition so much and had to know more. I found his website which shows only a few of his paintings, all of them incredibly beautiful. I would love to be able to find prints of the work above...

Wall Art

We've been in our current home for nearly a year and have decided that it's time to start adding some art work to the walls. Some people seem to effortlessly add and subtract art work from their homes, but we are more prone to talking about it for ages. It seems the thing to do is to simply begin, but in the back of my mind I'm wondering whether to look for large, statement pieces or smaller pieces that can be hung together. Which do you prefer?

Martin Stankewitz

Over on Inklore today, I am talking about monotype/monoprint as part of my Printmaking 101 series, and in my research I found the work of Martin Stankewitz, a German printmaker whose work I was immediately drawn to. I am sharing just a few of his recent works here, but there is much more to see on his website (which you can translate into English at the top). He also authors a fantastic blog called How to draw a tree which is a great resource for any artist. Enjoy!

Miyuki Sakai

After a lovely four day weekend (I took an extra day off!), I am feeling relaxed and ready to tackle the week ahead. This morning, I simply had to share these stunning illustrations with you. These illustrations are made by Miyuki Sakai using only a sewing machine and thread. Stunning, stunning, stunning! You must visit her portfolio to see more of her work...

Michelle Forsyth

Hi there and Happy Monday! Over the weekend I stumbled on this amazing work by Michelle Forsyth. The piece above is part of her Ostinatos series, for which she travels to the scene of past disasters and documents what is left there after the passage of time. These works are wonderful on their own merit, but it is the stories behind them that make them all the more meaningful.

A Few Suggestions

If you shop on Etsy, there is a fun new feature which suggests shops that you might like. When you click on your favorites, there is a new tab for suggested shops. When I looked at the suggestions, I saw many shops that are already favorites, but there were some that I had never seen and I thought I would share a few of those with you.

Also, if you are an artist or crafter running an online business, I would love for you to take a peek at my guest post on Meylah: 10 Tips on Getting Press for Your Products. I had fun writing it and would love to know what you think. And if you're not familiar with Meylah, you're in for a treat. The goal of Meylah is to help creative businesses succeed and there is a wealth of information on the site.
